Multiplication of Complex Numbers

Generally, multiplication of complex numbers follows the exact same principles as multiplication in algebra. In this video I demonstrate 3 common examples of multiplication of complex numbers.

Example 1: (2+3i)(1+5i); Here, we can use the FOIL method to expand and simplify.

Example 2: (2+3i)(2-3i); Here, we can realise that this is a difference of 2 squares, and we can follow the pattern that (a+b)(a-b) = a2 - b2 to get to the answer.

Example 3: (3-i)2. Here, we can follow pattern of binomial expansion to the second power, i.e. (a+b)2 = a2 + 2ab + b2 to get the answer.
